8/4/2004 12:00 AMLetters to the Editor, Mankato Free Press My friend, Joel Brude, was unable to provide The Free Press a reason for campaigning against the LCWM referendum, saying only that more will come. His silence is probably the result of orders from an outside agitator that his group has hired to defeat the referendum. The opponents have officially retained Paul Dorr, a professional consultant from northwest Iowa whose self-proclaimed goal is to defeat school referendums for a profit. What kind of a political consultant is Dorr? According to Nicholas Johnson, a former school board member of the Iowa City public school, who teaches at the University of Iowa College of Law, "the best that can be said for Dorr is that he's upfront. He doesn't hide the fact he wants nothing less than to destroy all public education. Period." Superintendent Molacek of the South Tama district said, "Dorr distributed misleading information to voters to defeat a measure in (my) district." He went on to say, "I believe that Mr. Dorr comes into a community and spins facts. He misrepresents (the school) and the state Department of Education." So, Free Press readers and LCWM residents, beware. When the outside agitator unleashes his last-minute barrage, there will be sensational charges against the LCWM school district trying to distract voters from the central issue. LCWM simply needs to upgrade facilities to provide a better learning environment. Be sure to get the facts before you believe what Dorr and his local followers say, when they eventually get around to saying anything. Mark Meyer Lake Crystal | ||||||||||||||||||||
