12/21/2006 12:00 AM Elyse Kaner, ABC Newspapers Spring Lake Park District 16 School Board last week unanimously adopted its 2006 final property tax levy in the amount of $14.5 million. The taxes are payable in 2007. The levy comprises a general fund of $7.93 million, a community service fund of $414,052 and a debt service fund of $6.18 million. An increase in levy dollars this year is owed to the successful passage of a $95.9 million bond levy approved by voters last February for a massive improvement project in the district’s buildings. The bond levy will also fund a new elementary school in Blaine just south of 125th Avenue on Cloud Drive. Taking into account principal and interest payments related to the successful bond referendum, property taxes increased by 36 percent, or $3.8 million from $10.7 million last year to $14.5 million this year, according to Jim Westrum, business manager at District 16. However, the increase was less than projected. For instance, based on an average increase of 8 percent in tax values, a home with a market value of $250,000 would pay $963 a year in school district taxes in 2007 – $11 less than the $974 projected in estimates last year for the bond referendum campaign. Some residents may be eligible for property tax refunds. The form to use would be M1-PR. For more information, call the Minnesota Department Revenue at 651-296-3781. A senior citizen property tax referral program is also available. http://www.abcnewspapers.com/2006/December/21budgetdist.html | ||||||||||||||||||||||
