The University of Minnesota wins an A grade in a new report for expanding access to students of color, but the U earns a D for the academic success of those students once they enter.

The report by the Education Trust examined data for the nation's 50 state public flagship universities and generally slammed the schools for serving disproportionately fewer low-income and minority students than in the past.

The U got an overall grade of C on the report, which graded schools on minority and low-income access to the institutions and graduation rates. Most universities received grades of C or worse in the report titled, "Engines of Inequality: Diminishing Equity in the Nation's Premier Public Universities."

The report, released Monday, gave the University of Wisconsin-Madison an overall D grade, including an F on access for low-income students. Read the full report at www.edtrust.org.
